The University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO) relocated to the top floor of an existing office building off-campus to expand their community relevance and provide staff with walkable amenities found along the downtown Charlottesville pedestrian mall. They sought to create a space that was sophisticated, timeless, bright, and refined, and that reflects the value the company places in their staff.
The 20,000 square-foot build out for UVIMCO includes a mix of enclosed offices and workstations, interspersed with conference rooms - smaller “huddle rooms” for collaboration and focus.
Office fronts are full height glazing to bathe the interior in natural daylight, connecting staff who sit on the interior with views to nature. Custom workstations include planters to provide visual privacy and a natural softening of edges. The café is located prominently in the northeast corner to take advantage of views to the mountains and includes a variety of seating configurations.
Perhaps the most prominent feature of the space is the conference center located adjacent to reception. The multiple rooms can serve anywhere from six to twenty-five people, all with full video teleconference capability. A custom bronze grillage forms the division between reception and meeting space, a nod to financial institutions of the past and a statement of the permanence of the group. The finishes include a rich palette of eucalyptus veneer, bronze, and large format tile that offer a serene, refined impression to guests and staff.
